Introduction
Our ground-breaking research reveals teachers encounter a host of challenges when teaching about the Holocaust. Foremost among these is uncertainty over just what ‘the Holocaust’ was: what happened, to whom, where, when, and why.
In this lesson, students approach these fundamental questions through the lives of individuals from the time. They then actively construct the historical context these people found themselves within, and in the process enter into a profound and meaningful learning experience.
