Lecturer (Teaching) in Holocaust Education

Kiera Fitzgerald

Kiera Fitzgerald is a Lecturer (Teaching) in Holocaust Education and a member of the Centre’s Kindertransport project team. Her work currently focuses on developing classroom resources, pedagogical approaches, and an online CPD course which will provide a foundational understanding of the history of the Kindertransport. She also contributes to teaching, marking, and personal tutoring on the Education MA programme at the Institute of Education.

Kiera previously worked at The Wiener Holocaust Library and the Holocaust Educational Trust, where she supported public engagement and educational programming. Before moving into the heritage sector, she taught History and English in secondary schools, experience that continues to shape her approach to Holocaust education. Her professional background spans archival work, resource development, and teaching across a range of educational settings.

Kiera’s expertise includes teaching about the Holocaust and the rise of the Nazi Party at school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. She specialises in the history of the Kindertransport, archival research, and the political and social context of Nazi Germany. Her interests include resistance, intelligence, and life in the ghettos. She has taken part in international educational workshops in Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, informing her comparative approach to Holocaust education.
