Senior Research Fellow

Dr Eleni Karayianni

Eleni joined the Centre in 2015 and currently works as a Senior Research Fellow.

She is involved in the Centre’s research and evaluation activities. This includes the evaluation of our ITE and continuous professional development courses and our Beacon school programme, as well as large-scale research projects such as the Centre’s research study ‘Continuity and Change: 10 years of teaching about the Holocaust in English Secondary Schools’. Eleni also works on small-scale qualitative studies on topics such as teachers’ curriculum design and development and the use of reflection in site-based professional development programmes.

Eleni has also co-authored the Centre’s new research-informed textbook ‘Understanding the Holocaust: How and why did it happen?’ with Prof Stuart Foster, Dr Andy Pearce and Helen McCord.

Eleni holds a PhD in History Education awarded by the UCL Institute of Education in 2012. Before joining the Centre, she worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Cyprus and as a primary school teacher in Cyprus and the UK.
