Corey Soper

Corey James Soper is Lead of the Centre’s Beacon School Programme (hyperlink?), overseeing our sustained programme of continuous professional development with schools. Corey also teaches across the Centre’s programmes and has developed a number of online courses and resources for the Centre.

Corey has a particular interest in the opportunities afforded by online education, and has developed a number of online courses for teachers, including Teaching the Holocaust: Innovative Approaches to the Challenges we Face and Nazi Antisemitism: Where did it come from?. Corey has also developed face-to-face CPD offers for the Centre, such as Using Holocaust Photography. Corey has also authored a number of teaching resources for the Centre, such as the Compromised Identities Teacher Guide, The Struggle to Survive: Resilience and Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto and Nazi Antisemitism. Prior to working for the Centre, Corey was Head of History and Teacher of History at a school in the West Midlands.

Corey’s work involves managing sustained continuous professional development initiatives and delivering research-informed teaching to educators and trainees across the UK. He has a particular interest in inclusive education, specifically regarding the school experiences of autistic learners and pupils with the D/deaf community. His experience also extends to digital pedagogy, having led the development of online learning resources and international Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that reach a global audience. Through collaborations with organizations like Yad Vashem and the Wiener Holocaust Library, he works to bridge the gap between academic scholarship and secondary school curricula. Beyond his primary role, he has contributed to major national commemorative and educational initiatives, such as the Belsen 75 project and the "Holocaust, Their Family, Me and Us" project, which utilizes personal testimony to engage students. Within the university, he is an active member of the UCL Academic Board.
