This 45-minute course seeks to answer the question “How do I start a scheme of learning on the Holocaust?”

This free online course uses the tried-and-tested one-hour KS3 lesson ‘Authentic encounters: how can original artefacts enrich our understanding of the Holocaust?’ to demonstrate the Centre’s pedagogical approach. It offers a starting point for introducing students to the Holocaust using authentic material and avoiding traumatic images, focusing on the personal story of one Jewish family. After completing the course, you will receive a copy of the ‘Authentic encounters: how can original artefacts enrich our understanding of the Holocaust?’ materials for use in your own classroom.

It is envisioned as a starting point for teachers new to teaching, new to teaching the Holocaust or new to working with the UCL Centre for Holocaust Education.

The course uses a multimedia approach to walk you through the lesson and then gives space for you to reflect and discuss the pedagogical approach with other participants.

We’re looking forward to hearing your feedback on how you get on with the course.
