Launch of new teaching materials: ‘I wonder where I will be tomorrow’ Refugees on the eve of the Holocaust.

A new resource for Key stage 3 students.

‘UCL Quality Mark School’ Lead teacher – Tony Cole and former lecturer at UCL Centre for Holocaust Education – Darius Jackson, have worked together to research and produce powerful learning materials for teachers to use in class with their students. The activities and approach aim to meet the needs, in particular, of learners who find the demands of mainstream education, a challenge.

The materials are designed to broaden students’ understanding of the diversity of European Jewish communities on the eve of World War 2 and what it meant to seek asylum in Britain in May 1940.  Using engaging, tried and tested approaches, the activities introduce students to Miriam Erlichmann, and subsequently follow her through her desperate journey to find refuge. Learners engage in ‘real history’ as they draw inferences from primary sources and continually reassess their ideas in the light of new and varied evidence. Miriam, now 82 and living in Essex, has provided many of the original sources that are included and was instrumental in the creation of this new resource. Poignantly, the materials will assist learners to consider and reflect upon the fate of refugee experience today, in light of their study.

Join us for this launch on 13th June 4:15-5:30pm, after which participants will receive free access to all the ready to go materials and lesson plans

Joining instructions will be sent in the week leading up to the session.
