Watford Grammar School for Girls is well known nationally for excellent academic standards and care for all its pupils. We are a Specialist College for Visual Arts and for Maths and Computing, and one of only five UK schools which are training schools for the Edward de Bono Thinking Tools. We have been accredited as a Thinking School by the University of Exeter. We are a developing school, continually trying to improve the quality of education we provide.
We became an IOE Beacon School in 2012. As part of the programme, our theme was “The Holocaust and modern Genocides”. We created a scheme of work for year 10 or older students called “Connecting the dots…” literally connecting similarities between the two with regard to early warning signs. The students created two time lines, one for the Holocaust and one for Rwanda. They used wool to connect up the two sites.
This was taught and shared between 4 other schools in South West Hertfordshire.
We also used elements of this in a workshop for 6th formers at the annual survivor’s conference at the school.
