Ranelagh School is an ‘outstanding’ CofE academy based in Berkshire. Teaching and Learning is at the heart of the school community and the link with the Centre for Holocaust Education has helped us to continue to develop new pedagogical practices in relation to Holocaust Education.
Students study the Holocaust as part of the Year 9 curriculum, with a creative piece of work on ‘freedom’ being produced at the end of the unit. Year 13 students also spend a year studying ‘Debates about the Holocaust’ as part of their OCR B unit, which also includes a 4 day study visit to Krakow, Poland.
Members of the history department at Ranelagh School have completed the CPD day offered by the Centre for Holocaust Education and have also attended various lectures held at the Institute. Currently, as a Beacon School, Ranelagh is working with the Centre to review current schemes of work in Year 9, as well as consider how to assess such a complex and emotional topic. Links have been established with other network schools, where this work can be shared, discussed and evaluated.
