The Manor Academy

The Manor Academy is a mixed age 11-18 school in Mansfield Woodhouse Nottinghamshire with around 1000 students on roll.

For the last three years, the Humanities team have worked to develop and deliver an integrated Humanities project. This involved each discrete subject area teaching a unit that would enable the Holocaust to be more fully understood and placed in context. RE taught about Judaism, History taught about the Rise of Nazi Germany, Citizenship looked at prejudice and discrimination and Geography the countries affected by this. We then worked collaboratively to develop our integrated project of twelve, hour long lessons, to be taught by each member of the team. The project included a visit to Beth Shalom and meeting with a Holocaust survivor.

We are continually developing the CPD of staff delivering this project, with the lead teacher participating in the IOE Beacon School study trip to Warsaw and three other members of staff attending the IOE training days. Our network schools have also been involved in this. We hope to continue to develop our expertise in this field.
