Hove Park School

Hove Park is a mixed comprehensive school catering for students between the age of 11-18, located in Hove, East Sussex

Having participated in the IOE`s two day CPD residential programme earlier this year, we strongly felt that Hove Park should be part of the Beacon Schools Programme.

We are planning a KS3 week in February 2014 where the Humanities Department will all be delivering the lessons on the Holocaust so that students benefit from a cross curricular approach. History will be delivering the Authentic Encounters and Interactive Timeline lessons, RS will be delivering Pre War Jewish Life and Resistance and Resilience lessons, and Geography will be using the IOE resources to explore Jewish population and migration changes through mapping exercises. We are also working with the Art department to plan a project around Holocaust survivors work. We are planning a showcase day in late February of students work.

At KS4 we are planning to deliver the lessons as part of their RS and History courses. We have seven schools in the area that we are working with to develop Holocaust Education within History, RS and English departments.

“The IOE`s CPD and training relating to Beacon Schools is outstanding and has revolutionised the way that I think about teaching the Holocaust. We are very excited to be part of this project, and looking forward to embedding the pedagogical principles into our approach and teaching of the Holocaust.”
