From Andy Lawrence

Over the last couple of weeks, our Year 9 students have been raising awareness about the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide. After learning about the Genocide and speaking with survivor Nedzad Avdic, they recreated a ‘Srebrenica Flower’, with the names of hundreds of the men and boys murdered written on each ‘petal’.

Looking forward, in the new school year our pupils will be working on a project entitled ‘Standing With Others’. It’ll focus on taking small actions to affect meaningful outcomes for those suffering from identity-based violence. The pupils have made connections with Uighur, Darfuri, Tigrayan, Hazara and Rohingya diaspora and will be standing in solidarity with them through activities in the coming months.

The students at Hampton would love to hear from any other schools who would like to collaborate on the project. Please do get in touch!

Looking ahead to HMD 2026, our Year 12 students are collaborating with their peers in four other schools in our Borough to create a learning resource for their Year 9 school mates. They have been speaking to scholars and second-generation survivors as part of the endeavour and hope to use their resource to address misconceptions that younger students might have about the Holocaust.
