Take a break (…if you can)!

This is just a quick message from the Centre to wish those of you who are managing to get a break this half term, to enjoy it to the full. It’s been a difficult time for many of you so do what you can to rest, relax and recharge your batteries. For those of you with only the bank holiday to play with, please make every minute count and treat yourself, somehow. You deserve it.

New extended deadline for UCL’s Beacon School Programme (5pm, 11th June)

The Centre has been delighted with the quality of applications for our flagship Beacon School Programme in Holocaust Education 2021-2022. We have made the online programme, even more flexible, and condensed it in places to make it easier for schools to undertake in this current climate.

Key changes are:

• The Lead Teacher role can be shared between two members of staff
• The seven, 1-hour online sessions which were scheduled for the autumn term will be repeated in the spring and summer terms of 2022
• The October weekend online gathering/workshop has been condensed into a single morning on Saturday 23 October (This will also be recorded in case the date clashes with other commitments).
• The final output will focus on 2 or 3 outstanding lessons rather than a SOL and lessons

In addition, we have extended the deadline for application to the 11th June – we want to give every chance for schools to apply who want to take up the challenge. New CPD online modular programme on its way…

The team here is working on a brand new CPD offer for schools entitled: What was the Holocaust, how do I teach it and why does it matter? The 8 modules which form the series will be led by members of our expert team, ‘live online’ from September 2021. We will be releasing the dates to you in June.
