Dr Kane Needham

Kane Needham is a research fellow with a background in social science research looking at the implications of education levels on people’s ability to meaningfully participate in digital society. Other research interests include the role of education in context of de-regulated online spaces and how these factors interact in context of polarised societal discourses, and political extremism.

Methodologically, Kane brings to the team expertise in survey design and distribution, as well as analysis and management of small and large survey data sets. His work to date at the Centre for Holocaust Education (CfHE) has primarily involved helping the wider team to ensure a high standard of data interpretation and production of statistical results for the 2021 report into Holocaust education in English schools (Continuity and Change: 10 years of teaching about the Holocaust in English Secondary Schools).

Prior to joining CfHE at the UCL Institute of Education, Kane studied and worked at The University of Stirling following previous study at The University of York. He has also worked in research capacities at Heriot-Watt University, Education Scotland, and Skills Development Scotland.
