This session guides teachers through a lesson designed to introduce students sensitively but openly to a study of the Holocaust.

By close examination of a child’s ordinary leather shoe, students begin to speculate its provenance. This guided interrogation leads them to discover the place where the shoe was found – Auschwitz Birkenau and what, in all probability, would have happened to the unknown child to whom the shoe belonged.
